One of the most strenuous, and overlooked cleaning projects within any home is the oven. It’s not the top of anyones cleaning to do list normally, but once something spills inside, the oven jumps to number one and becomes a bit of an emergency. Oven cleaning is a rare request for me. When I do get them though, it’s usually for good reason.
If you’re looking to take on this project yourself, I hope this guide helps put you in the right direction. If you feel overwhelmed, I am just a phone call away.

How to Clean an Oven with Ease
1. Gather the necessary supplies
Be sure to have the following materials on hand before starting your oven-cleaning adventure. You won’t always need all the items listed but it’s good to have them just in case:
- Rubber gloves
- Oven cleaner (commercial or homemade)
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Dishwashing liquid
- Microfiber cloth
- Scrub brush
- Plastic scraper
- Spray bottle
- Old newspapers or paper towels
- Hot water
2. Safety First and is KEY

It’s essential to take safety measures while cleaning an oven since you may need to use strong chemicals. To protect your hands from abrasive cleaners, wear rubber gloves and ensure the area is well-ventilated. Keep kids and animals away from the cleaning procedure as well.
3. Remove oven racks and accessories

Remove the baking pans, oven racks, and other detachable accessories first. These may be washed individually with warm, soapy water or, if dishwasher-safe, put in the machine. While you clean the inside of the oven, leave them aside to soak.
4. Preparing the oven cleaner

Read the manufacturer’s directions carefully and adhere to them if you use a professional oven cleaning. Baking soda and water may be used to make a paste for a DIY substitute that has a thick consistency.
5. Apply the oven cleaner

Apply the oven cleaning to the oven’s internal surfaces using a sponge or microfiber cloth, paying particular attention to any oily or soiled areas. Avoid touching the heating elements and any other sections in your oven’s handbook designated as “no-clean.” According to the product directions, allow the cleaner to settle for the prescribed time.
6. Clean the oven racks

Utilize the time to clean the oven racks while the oven cleaner does its job. Scrub them with a brush or a sponge and warm, soapy water. Let it set for a bit before washing any tough stains.
7. Wipe down the oven interior
After the homemade oven cleaner has worked, clean the oven with a damp microfiber towel or sponge. Use a plastic scraper or scrub brush to clean stubborn, baked-on spots carefully. Before continuing, make sure the cleaner has been eliminated.
8. Deodorize with vinegar (Optional)
Spray the oven with vinegar to remove any odors. The inherent acidity of vinegar aids in balancing and getting rid of offensive odors. Before cleaning the vinegar away with a moist towel, let it stay for a few minutes.
9. Clean the oven door
The oven door cleaning needs particular care since it might collect oil and dirt. Clean the door using a cloth dampened with warm water. Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid over the cloth. Apply it to the stains, and let it soak before scrubbing for harder stains.
10. Rinse and dry
Use a clean, moist towel to wipe away any vinegar or cleaner residue after cleaning all the surfaces. Wipe everything dry with a dry cloth or paper towel. To remove any moisture and hasten to dry, lay some old newspapers or paper towels at the bottom of the oven.
